The Call Me Cordelia Blog Gets a Major Update

Call Me Cordelia

“…What’s your name?”
The child hesitated a moment.
“Will you please call me Cordelia?” she asked eagerly.
“Call you Cordelia? Is that your name?”
“No-o-o, it’s not exactly my name, but I would love to be called Cordelia. It’s such a perfectly elegant name.”
“I don’t know what on earth you mean. If Cordelia isn’t your name, what is?”
“Anne Shirley.”
– L. M. Montgomery

No, my name isn’t Cordelia or even Anne-with-an-e. Its plain old unromantic Shannon. Most people assume by my site’s name that I am Cordelia. I only wish that it were true. I would love to be Lady Cordelia Fitzgerald and wear a dress with beautiful puffed sleeves. My mother remembered my childhood obsession with Anne of Green Gables and suggested the name Call Me Cordelia because it was my favorite Anne quote.

For those of you that are new to Call Me Cordelia, I’ll briefly fill you in on our site’s history. For my regular visitors, you can skip down to the update section and see the wonderful news about my upcoming changes!

Call Me Cordelia turns 12 years old

Call Me Cordelia first began way back in 2004 when websites were hosted free by yahoo geocities. I was “geocities.com/ladycordellia1912”. It was all about Anne of Green Gables. Each page had different backgrounds featuring Victorian ladies with puffed sleeves. I was sure both Anne Shirley and Lady Cordelia would approve.

When yahoo stopped offering free geocities sites, I purchased the domain callmecordelia.net in 2009. That’s when I switched to my beloved blue floral background and Victorian lady logo. I imagine that Lady Cordelia would have looked very much like that lady with her roses.

This year, 2016, brings some exciting changes to Call Me Cordelia. One of them is a new blog layout. Last year, I made the mistake of changing to a purple background and a different lady logo. It just didn’t feel like my site anymore. So I am thrilled to announce that I am switching back to my original blue colors and original logo. Like the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Other parts of Call Me Cordelia are broken and in need of fixing. Compared to the technology of today, my 12 year old site is in desperate need of a few major updates.

Cordelia’s Upcoming Changes

1. WordPress I’ve done my research and wordpress is by far the best Content Management Service. I personally don’t think blogger compares to all of WP’s plugins. I won’t be using my old blogger account anymore. Call me Cordelia is now powered entirely by WordPress. The switch did change the name of my old pages. If you come to an old link, you will be re-directed to my new page.

2. Mobile Responsive My new WordPress theme is mobile responsive. So many people surf the net on there smart phones and tablets, that I felt it was time for Call Me Cordelia to keep up with modern technology.

3.Weekly Updates In the future, you can expect to see a new blog post every Thursday. My goal is to start posting new content every week and eventually, at some distant point in the future, start posting every day.

4.Pinterest Did you know you can check you site’s url on Pinterest and see how often your site has been pinned? I was shocked and amazed to discover how many pins Call Me Cordelia had! Some pages which had no images, people used my website’s header image to save it to Pinterest. Pinterest wasn’t even around when I started my site 12 years ago, now its a major part of the internet. From now on, all of our posts will have beautiful Pinterest friendly images.

5.New Categories and Pages I will be moving our most viewed pages to WordPress and deleting the rest of our old site. There will be new categories and sub-categories to make navigating the site easier. The Start Here page will explain the new navigation and what to expect in each category. It will also include links to our older, but still well loved, content.

I need your help!

Please take a moment and leave me a comment. I would love to know your thoughts.

  • What do you think of the updates? Should I do anything different?
  • Which of our old pages would you like to have moved to the new site?
  • What topics would you like to see me write about in the future?

I welcome any other thoughts or comments 🙂
